This game took place on Sunday, July 9
Mid-American Tournament, Hopkins
15u Championship
OMAHA CRUSADERS 59,
MINNEAPOLIS LADY CATS 46
The Omaha Crusaders were known as the Alegent Crusaders in the Dakota Showcase in Sioux Falls last weekend, They were 3-2 in that tournament finishing second in the pool and 1-1 in the 2nd tier bracket. This weekend they went home with the title.
The older, more experience Omaha Crusaders handled the typical intense pressure the Lady Cats deliver and took the championship. Amanda Woodring started the game with a basket for OC on her way for 24 points. The Crusaders led 13-5 at the 9 minute mark. They had their own drought of 5, but they also held MLC to a five possession dry spell. OC also ran the floor and Kristen Conahan had two transition baskets in a row. MLC came back with an 8-2 run to close to 15-13. Motor Tyisha Smith revved up the MLC engine with an 8-2 run. Woodring then had a flurry of baskets. She had 10 points in a 15-6 run. That run was the difference maker. By half time OC led 35-23.
There would be no second half comeback a la the semis for MLC. Every time MLC would make a push, OC would meet the challenge. The closest MLC came was at 49-40 with 8:32 left. MLC only managed to score six points the rest of the way. OC also slowed down with their offensive execution with 10 points. OC did have a brief thrust where they scored on three straight possessions pushing their lead out to 57-42. with 3 minutes left the score was 59-44 and then both teams went bone dry. MLC had a six possession drought, the same as OC. Sarina Baker finished had a steal and lay up at the end of the game to wrap up the scoring.
