This game took place on Sunday, May 6
Skyview AAU Tournament, Oakdale MN
16u 9th place game
SWISH 49, SUMMIT BLUE 42

The Swish took the 9th place contest at the Skyview tournament. I had previously put this out on Gabcast thinking that this was a quarterfinal game. The tournament changed the format and it was, in reality, a 9th place game.
Missing in action in this contest for the Swish was Andrea Hagberg. She had a prom the night before and a religious event on Sunday.

Summit got off to a slow start with a 1/9 offensive sequence early and trailed Swish 11-4. Megan Zillmer had two consecutive transition lay ups off missed Summit shots. Aaryn Booker for Summit scored five in a row including an "& 1" to narrow the game to 11-9. Booker had 7 of the Summit points at this point. Summit reclaimed the lead (they led 2-1) with a Kovalchuk basket 14-13. Jordyn Sears answered with two free throws which started a 10-2 run. The Summit had a 1/9 offensive sequence again which didn't help their cause. The Swish held a 23-16 lead with Sears providing four of the points in the run. Summit added four more to close to 23-20 at half.

Summit spent the rest of the second half trying to climb back into the lead, but the lead remained within eyeshot, but tantalizingly out of reach. They closed to 30-29 on a Kovalchuk basket with 10 minutes left. Brooke Dunsmoore had a rebound basket to give the Swish some insurance room. Summit didn't have the long stretch drought, or dry spell, like the first half, but a four possession period put them in the hole 36-29. With 1:48 left Summit closed to 42-40 with two free throws by Megan Erlandson. Sears once again answered the threat with two free throws of her own. The Swish handled the late game situations with four straight scores, all at the line. Swish had their win 49-42.

The Summit earlier in the spring season and they were ripping the nets then. On this day it was almost 180 degrees different. Against Randolph WI the Summit Blue checked in with 111.86 pp100 in a 74-66 loss. In this game they only reached 68.9 pp100. The numbers were down for most of the teams. The Swish did go up from the first time I saw them. Their first game against Southern Minne Magic White was 64.1 pp100. They added 20 points to that margin to 81.7 pp100. A big factor in this game was the 3s. Summit Blue feasted on 3s against Randolph with six, and were limited to one lone trey here. They never could shake free from the man defense.
