ACADEMICS & SPORTS

Earlier this week I blogged about the 2.0 gpa that is needed to play. Here is a story about a player that has emphasized academics.

When Benilde-St. Margaret's Kachine Alexander was hurt back in early February, a 5th Grade class from Hall Elementary School in North Minneapolis wrote to her. They have written to her a total of 3 times and she has responded to all letters to each student. They have requested that she come to their school and talk to them about going to college, what it takes to get there, etc. A couple of the children in their letters asked if she could be their mentor.
Alexander visited the school yesterday to talk to the class and to present two basketballs - 1 to the female student with the highest grade and 1 to the male student with the highest grade. She wanted to let them know that it is not all about sports but that their academics is even more important.

Alexander will be headed to Iowa this fall.

ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
