Memorial Day Classic, Menomonie, WI
Platinum Championship
TEAM WI SELECT 17u 42, RANDOLPH 25

I reported on this game on Sunday from my Gabcast Channel, Episode #36. You won't find any photos due my battery running out of juice. I have learned my lesson.

In a battle of two Pool A teams, it was TWS17 getting revenge against Randolph in a convincing way. Randolph beat TWS17 on Saturday when three TWS17 players were missing--one of which was point guard Hannah Quilling. With the gang all there on Sunday TWS17 slammed the door defensively on Randolph's repeat upset bid.

Neither team had their barings straight at the start of the game. Randolph scored on their second possession, but then had a 10 possession drought. TWS17 started the game with 7 empty possessions. TWS17 took an 8-4 lead during the Randolph dry spell. Jadee Rooney, the soul of Randolph's team, knocked down a three to cut the margin to 8-7 with 4:30 left in the half. The game remained tight with TWS17 up 13-11 with 2:30 left. TWS17 then caught fire with 5/6 offensive scoring possessions and a 11-4 run to finish the half. Quilling led the burst with 7 points. TWS17 led 24-15 at the break. Val Schuster, who has verballed Cincinnati, had 9 points at half for TWS17.

Possessions were longer in the second half. Remember it was running time so the numbers are going to be inflated somewhat. In the first half the average time of possession was 22.64 seconds; in the second half 34.28. Randolph never got any closer than 9 and that was early in the half. Randolph again suffered through an 8 possession drought as they couldn't generate any offense inside. TWS17 was never in doubt. They had a four possession sequence on a 9-0 run to go up 37-19 and cruised from there 42-25.

Katie Bushman, Phillips 4, 9, 44.4, .222 has big time physical post physique. She was the Player of the week in week #3, but RF: today was off on all facets. struggled with shot. drifted, off balance, unsure. needs to square up power up. exposed ball. needs to be consistent.
Val Schuster, Wausau Newman 13, 7, 185.7, .857 put an exclamation point to her performance. Strong, physical post, confident, aggressive. moves well. was golden inside.

RANDOLPH
STARTERS
Jadee Rooney, Markesan 7, 10, 70.0, .300 has the flourish and moxy, plus speed and aggressiveness to play. gym rat persona. can hit 3, can drive, can move without the ball. competitive. RF: had to get feet set after catching---should catch with her feet in the air, pass with her feet on the ground. on spin dribble elbow gets too far away.

BY THE NUMBERS
Team WI Select 17u 42, 43, 97.7, .442

made 3s: TWS17 2, Randolph 1
made fts: TWS17 8, Randolph 2

Size matters. TWS17 cornered the market in that department. It made it tough to go inside in the half court game and Randolph was limited to one crack a time.
