Sasha Barnes Signs with NDSCS

Wahpeton, ND--North Dakota State College of Science head women’s basketball coach, Paulette Stein announced today the signing of St. Paul Johnson High School’s Sasha Barnes to the National Junior College Athletic Association Letter of Intent.

“Barnes is a true guard who is very smart, very unselfish and very quick,” said Coach Stein. “She’s the kind of point guard who puts the team on her back and say’s ‘lets go’. A highly recruited point guard by other nationally prominent junior college programs, Sasha will be a fan favorite and a player who will rise when the game is on the line.”

Averaging 14 points per game at St. Paul Johnson High School, Barnes broke the school record for assists and led the St. Paul City Conference in assists. Defensively, Barnes was second in steals in the conference. Barnes, who played under head coach Willie Tyler, helped the Governors to a second place conference finish.

Barnes has been a point guard varsity starter since 8th grade and attained the honor of All-Conference in three of five years. Playing for St. Paul Central from eighth through tenth grade, Barnes helped the Minutemen to the Class 4A State Tournament and to a third place finish as sophomore. As team captain, Barnes was tabbed this year’s Most Valuable Player. Barnes played her AAU basketball for the Minnesota Sugar Storm.

North Dakota State College of Science captured the Mon-Dak Conference title with a 13-1 record and won the Region XIII Championship. All-American honors by the NJCAA went to graduating sophomores Jenna Giller, St. Paul, Minn. and Jana Momoh, Brooklyn Park, Minn, who became the fifth and sixth All-Americans during head coach Paulette Stein’s four years at NDSCS.

NDSCS also has Natalie Giese of Canby, Stephanie Roggenbuck of Osakis and Dominique Schuler of Fargo Shanley joining the team next season.
