Bloomington Kennedy AAU tournament
16u Pool Play
43 HOOPS OLSEN 37, TEAM TRAIN 32
I reported on this game on Saturday on my Gabcast channel Episode 28.
As you can see there are some photos with this story. I now have a Canon digital camera now that can take some action photos without the blur I was getting with the Olympus camera.
In the first photo it is Brittany Conroy of Team Train going up for the left hand lay up with Amy Van Hulzen of 43 Hoops Olsen attempting to block the shot. Photo #2 has Haley Thomforde of Team Train going up for the 3 attempt (it did not drop). Thomforde had 11 points to lead all scorers. Defending on the play is Anna Marie Martino of 43 Hoops Olsen.

The tournament action this weekend was pretty thin in Minnesota due to the power tournament the weekend before, the state tournament next weekend, and of course the Memorial Day weekend. There were some teams in action. At Kennedy four girls teams played in a round robin pool. This game featured two teams that had won their first games in the pool. Team Train beat MN TC Shockers 44-24 while 43 Hoops Olsen, according to the board, beat Total Package 35-28. The format was four 7 minute stop time quarters.
This game did not feature a lot of scoring but did feature plenty of dry spells. 43 Hoops Olsen started off the contest with six straight non scoring possessions. Team Train matched 43HO with their own 6 drought. Team Train only had two turnovers in that sequence, same as 43HO. 43HO took their first lead on a put back "& 1" from Jenny Houle 6-4.
Team Train had another tough quarter with a 2/16 offensive sequence. TT had an 8 possession drought after scoring the first points of the quarter. 43HO didn't really seize advantage of the opportunity as they only scored four times in the half, two of which were put backs. 43HO led at the half 14-8.
Things started to loosen up in the second half. 43HO had a 7/9 offensive sequence at the beginning of the half as they stretched their lead to 27-11 on a 13-3 run. Six different 43HO players contributed to the margin. Meanwhile TT was mired in an 11 possession drought stuck over two quarters. Things turned with 3 minutes left in the quarter. 43HO finished the quarter with a six possession drought. TT had a little 6-0 run to close the margin to 27-17.
43HO started the fourth quarter on a post up by Andrea Paetznick, but then again went into a five possession drought---so between the two quarters 1/11 offensive sequence. TT took advantage of that with a 5/6 offensive sequence and a 9-4 run to make it 31-26 with 4:41 left. Then as quickly as the Train started leaving the depot, the train stopped. This time the drought was for five possessions and the lead was back to 8 for 43HO. TT did cut the margin back to 35-30 with 34.7 left, but Shelby Barnum stroked two free throws to give 43HO some breathing room. Andrea McAlpine finished the scoring with a lay up for TT. 43HO had their win 37-32.
