this game took place on Saturday, May 26
MYAS Tournament Osseo
pool play
LADY BOBCATS 51, LADY LAKERS 47

I reported on this game on Saturday on my Gabcast channel, episode #29.

This was one of the other tournaments going on in the Twin Cities over the Memorial Day weekend. It featured two Minneapolis based teams with most of the players coming from Minneapolis Roosevelt for the Lakers, most of the players from Minneapolis South for the Bobcats. The Lakers also had players that will graduate in June. Despite that it was the younger Bobcat players defeating the olders Laker players in a physical battle 51-47.

The Bobcats opened scoring with a Tyisha Smith lay up off the opening tip. The Bobcats then scored on their next possession for a 4-0 lead. The Lakers were forced to take a time out to regroup. The Lakers started the game with an 0/7 possession run. The Bobcasts soon matched them with their own 0/6 run. It was primarily poor shooting that prevented each team from scoring. Both teams did employ full court pressure defense. The Bobcats endured two more droughts, one of 8 and another of 6. Meanwhile the Lakers started to get their motor humming. Leading the charge was Talisha Barlow with 10 points in a 16-6 finish to the half. (you can see Barlow going up for a couple of her points on the left). The Lakers were 9/11 on their possessions to close the half.

The Lakers continued their roll into the second half as they jumped out to a 26-18 lead after a Jamie Tietzel lay up off the Bobcat press. Then Tyisha Smith was involved in a physical play that got her gander up and she came out with something to prove. She ignited a six possession, 12-0 run to take the lead 30-26. She had a key steal for a lay up and then did her pen & pitch to waiting teammates Mallory Cramer and Akeena Bronson waiting to drill 3s. Later on they ran another string of 7 (15-9 run) to go up 47-39 with 1:51 left. Bronson added her 3rd and 4th trey of the game in that outburst. The Lakers weren't done yet with Barlow again leading the charge with 8 points in their final 8-4 push. The Bobcats missed out on chances at the line with six misses in the last 30 seconds but still hung on for the 51-47 win.
