THE AAU WEEK THAT WAS #7: SKEDS ON THE SKIDS
This weekend was supposed to be the AAU qualifier for the 16s or Juniors. The qualifier did not come through and it turned into a garden variety spring tournament. But it has the top flight teams that you would expect at a qualifier. There have scheduling problems with changes happening a couple of times this week. A variety of sources have indicated to me that the schedule is not done here in Minnesota, but is done in Florida due to charter issues.
Right off the bat on Saturday NC Heat and MN Stars Hested, two of the top three teams at this age level, face off in one pool. Only one moves on to the championship bracket. The potential exists that whoever wins that game, and continues to win, will face North Tartan in the semis. It doesn't make sense for these three teams to be on one side of the bracket. So this tournament has serious flaws. But the games must go on. Just get there early on Saturday.

Luckily the 13 state tournament has changed their schedule so the top two teams are in opposite sides of the bracket after pool play. That was noted by the MN AAU organization and they moved on it to get it fixed right.

TEAM OF THE WEEK
Metro Stars Black, survived a couple of civil war, family fued games against Metro Stars 15 in the quarters and Metro Stars White in the semis. As usual the internal games are much more difficult to play. Both sides puts forth an extra jolt of adreneline. They younger teams always want to show that they are worthy. When MSB made it to the finals they cruised over Total Package. Defense got the job done in the two games I watched. They held both MSW and TP to under .300 floor %. That is a strong accomplishment. MSB did also top 100 pp100 against TP.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Courtney Boylan, Metro Stars Black clearly came ready to play on Sunday. She was a woman among girls. Her drive, fire, and accuracy were all there. Her command of the game and team left no doubt. Now every team will be focusing their defensive resources on her. She will have to rise to meet the challenge of bigger defenders. Her team will also have to step up their offensive efforts to match their defensive efforts. Like I noted yesterday when refs come up and talk about players you know that player was cooking.

Again, for those that are new to this site, in order to make the team of the week I need to have seen the player in action. The player needs to have at least 6 possessions, and +100 pp100 and +.500 floor %. That always isn't possible. I take the next #s down after that. If I saw the team twice, the numbers are added. Consistency is rewarded.
