Richfield AAU tournament
Varsity Quarterfinals
SOUTHERN MINNE MAGIC 18U 46, MN SUMMIT BLUE 33

I reported on this on Sunday on my Gabcast channel Episode #14.

I got to this game late at Richfield on Mother's day. So when I arrived SMM was already up 12-4. Summit had a hard time scoring in the first half with offensive sequences 1/11. Six of those possessions ended in turnovers. The bigger, and older SMM controlled the action. It was a physical affair with the first three scores I saw for SMM coming at the line. When I was watching it was 12-8 for SMM, and the led 26-12 at the break.

The Summit scored the first five points in the second half to cut the margin to 26-17. Tanya Dickey's defense picked up and that helped provide some transition points. SMM couldn't get out of the gate going 0/8 to begin the half. Shannon Renne did break the ice with two consecutive baskets near the 10 minute mark to make it 30-17. Both teams added two points to their totals on their next two possessions to make it 32-19. Summit went on a 12-4 run over the next four minutes to make it 36-31. Aaryn Booker provided six points, four on second chancers and Dickey added four for Summit. At about 4:30 to go Booker and Katie Van Duyhenhoven got into a little tussle and KVD was ejected from the game and had to sit in the bleachers away from the team. Summit after that only scored one more time in the next 12 possessions. SMM closed with a 10-2 run with Renne adding six more to her totals.
