NC Heat 1-1 at AAU Nationals

AAU NATIONALS
In the Junior Eligible tournament in Orlando 80 teams are playing for the national title. NC Heat was 1-1 in pool play yesterday.
They defeated Florida Boys and Girls club 71-48
STARTERS
Taquoia Hammick, Mpls South 8; also had 12 rebounds
Katya Leick, Park-Cottage Grove 6, four assists
Ephesia Holmes, Mpls South 17, four assists
Tayler Hill, Mpls South 25, five steals
Megan Nipe, Centennial 10
BENCH

NC Heat lost to MA Phoenix, 92-65. NC Heat led 44-41 at half, and by as many as 13 during this game. DBL Phoenix handled the press in the 2nd half and NC Heat kept it on once behind. The result was a flurry of layups. DBL played zone most of the game due to picking up almost 20 first half fouls. Hill picked up her 3rd and 4th fouls early in the 2nd half, with more than 12 minutes left. It was DBL's 1st game of the tourney so there still could be a tie in the pool, ie. NC Heat has a shot at winning their pool. The road to the final four is mcuh tougher as a #2 or lower exiting pool play.

The Stars Mid American tournament in Hopkins; End of the Trail touranment in Oregon and the Great Lakes shoot in Menomonie are also going on this weekend.

12u AAU
Former NBA player Antonio Davis has twins (one boy, one girl) playing in the AAU Nationals. He coaches both teams. Daughter Kaela plays with Illinois Central Elite Ice and they won their quarterfinal game 50-48 in Rochester. From the Rochester Post Bulletin.
In the semis yesterday ICEI beat Memphis Flight 50-39, and MO Valley Eclipse beat San Gabriel Valley 45-44.
North Tartan was beat in the play back round by Hoopaholix 47-40.

OTHER TOURNAMENTS
The MN Stars 13U swept the MYAB 7/8 Omaha II Tournament last weekend going 6-0. Defeating the Omaha Triple Threat, Lincoln Lightning, South Dakota Thunder, South Dakota Nighthawks, Nebraska High Five, and Omaha Heat. The Stars Team is coached by Emily LeClair, Burnsville's new JV coach.
