Minnesota State AAU tournament
Cooper HS
16u Sweet 16 round
TOTAL PACKAGE 74, METRO STARS WHITE 66

This was a tight game with ebb and flow. It was a physical game with free throws galore. In the end it was #6 Total Package prevailing with a rally and a door slam over #11 Metro Stars White.

In the first half the first noteworthy item came when Ali Johnson of MSW hit three consecutive 3s to put her team up 14-8. MSW reached the apex at 19-13 after a steal & lay up by Johnson. MSW then was held scoreless for six straight possessions. Total Package took advantage of their slumber for a 7-0 run and reclaimed the lead with a Lyndsey Westgaard basket. MSW went back up 23-20 and it see sawed back to TP with a steal and lay up by Jamelia Hudnell. Kyanna Johnson put an end to that with a three and then Nakita Walker added a pair of free throws to put MSW up at half 28-24.

Both teams were never far from each other in the second half. The biggest lead for TP was at 41-36. MSW took the lead on a drive by Walker 49-48. MSW's biggest lead came at 59-53 after an "&1" by Johnson after a drive. TP tied the game up at 60 with a transition lay up by Krista Kaput. Keely Schunke gave MSW their last lead with one free throw 61-60. Jennifer Dowd hit two free throws for TP to go up 62-61. Then next possession she stroked a 3 to go up 65-61. Jaime Birr answered on the next MSW possession with her own trey to cut it right back to 65-64. TP turned the ball over, but they were about to play their ace card: full court defense. Kyanna Johnson was turned in the back court and Krista Kaput stole the ball, went in for a lay up and got the "&1." That gave TP a 68-64 cushion with 1:50 left. That was the start of a 9-0 run effectively putting the game in the bank. TP was 6/8 on their last possessions. MSW was the opposite with 2/8.

That is not wrestling, but Bridget Schuneman of Metro Stars White and Chaundera Riley of Total Package going for the loose ball in the photo
