STENSGARD SIGNS
Alicia Stensgard, Fargo South, has signed with NDSCS here is their press release
Wahpeton, ND—Fargo South High School’s 6-0 power forward is set to join the North Dakota State College of Science basketball program, as Lady Wildcat Head Coach Paulette Stein announced today the signing of Alicia Stensgard to the National Junior College Athletic Association Letter of Intent. Stensgard becomes the fifth recruit to join the Lady Wildcat squad.
“What I really like about Stensgard is the way she uses her body in low post,” noted Stein. “She is strong, physical, focused and plays with that ‘I’ve got something to prove’ attitude both offensively and defensively. She’s a force and that tough attitude will make a difference in the Mon-Dak Conference. Plus, she runs the floor very well, not just for a player of her size, but for anyone.”
Last season Stensgard made an impact for the Bruins while coming primarily off the bench. Playing just 15 minutes per game, Stensgard averaged 5 rebounds and 6.7 points per game while shooting 46 per cent form the floor. Under Bruin Coach Craig Flaagan, Stensgard helped Fargo South to a 16-6 record.
A two-sport athlete, Stensgard made some noise for the Bruin track team as well. She placed third in the discus at the State Track Meet and second at the EDC meet, and helped Fargo South earn the State Championship and the EDC Championship.
This is the second Bruin to play for NDSCS and Stein. Alicia Calkins, a 5-9 forward graduated from NDSCS in 2005.
North Dakota State College of Science captured the Mon-Dak Conference title with a 13-1 record and won the Region XIII Championship. All-American honors by the NJCAA went to graduating sophomores Jenna Giller, St. Paul, Minn. and Jana Momoh, Brooklyn Park, Minn, who became the fifth and sixth All-Americans during head coach Paulette Stein’s four years at NDSCS
