TOURNAMENT NEWS
DAKOTA SHOWCASE
From Sioux Falls

Last night I got to the hotel room after 11:30 pm after watching 9 games. Then I was up until 12:50 am trying to figure out how to get on the internet. I wasn't going to write anything then. But here it goes:
Game #1 we got to SF in time to see the 12:30 game and it was Kansas City Hustle beating Midwest Trailblazers 51-43. Danielle Bird for KCH had 18.
#2: IBCA Select I beat Fox Valley Hustle (from Wisconsin) 64-34. FVH led 17-10 with about 7 minutes left in the first half. IBCA Select I finished the game with a 54-17 margin. There half court trap was deadly. Kelly Krei led IBCA Select with a balanced 13.
#3: MN Metro Stars Black defeated Runza (from Nebraska) 54-38. A 22-4 run early in the first half sealed this game. Courtney Boylan had 18 for MSB.
#4: Dakota Hardwood Threat run over Iowa Elite II 75-32. A 15-0 run started an avalanche of points DHTs way midway through the first half. Amber Wollschlager had 16 to lead DHT. They were humming.
#5: ECI West Gold trounced, bounced and flounced Kansas Hoop Service 80-29. It was 20-0 before KHS scored. This game was a hot knife through butter, but butter that was left out in the June sun for 10 hours. Lauren Carew had 18 for ECIWG.
#6: Pinnacle Bank Nebraska beat North Tartan Crosby 60-47. PBN came out hot and built a 14-6 lead. NTC kept scrapping and scraping and cut the margin to 26-23 late in the first half. PBN finished the half on top 32-23. The margin remained close to that in the second half. Shelly Martin of PBN had 15 to top all scorers.
#7: South Dakota Riders topped Iowa Lightning I 63-57. The game was in question with one minute to go, but Shaunteva Ashley added four free throws to leave no doubt. Ashley had 17 to lead all scorers.
#8: This was an interesting game. All Iowa Attack I edged the Mid-Missouri Hustlers 51-48. MMH led early 14-7. The game was tied at half 24 all. Gradually AIA pushed their lead out to 38-28. That lead held up until 3:20 left. MMH but on a furious rally to close to 49-48 with under 30 seconds left. Marni Jacobson dropped two free throws for the final margin. Three players had 11 points between both teams.
#9 They saved the best contest for last. Kansas City Hustle survived Iowa Elite I 62-58. KCH led 35-31 at halftime. IEI kept scrambling back even after falling down 47-40. They led for the first time at 56-55 with about 2:30 left. But KCH closed the deal with a 7-4 run. Drew Roberts had 14 to lead KCH.

Here are the brackets for today. In the Gold division there is one Minnesota team left standing: Metro Stars Black. However Cassie Hooten of Moorhead plays with Dakota Hardwood Threat, another team in the championship mix. Iowa has two teams left standing, same as Nebraska. North Dakota, South Dakota, and Kansas City--I don't know if they are from Missouri or Kansas--are left standing.

We will be watching at least four games today, two quarters, one semi and of course the finals.
