16u Quarterfinals
SOUTHERN MINNE MAGIC BLACK 45, METRO STARS 15s 39
Metro Stars 15s were fresh off a big civil war win over Metro Stars Black on Saturday night. They won it on a last second shot. Southern Minne Magic Black was seeded directly into the quarters and didn't have to play on Saturday night. Whether it was the draining emotional win on Saturday or the physical fatigue, Metro Stars 15s came out very flat on Sunday in the quarters. SMMB led 10-1 before MS15s scored their first field goal, and that was a rebound basket with under 7 minutes left in the half. The fact was MS15s only scored two field goals in the entire first half. MS15s were only 1/14 on their first possessions and that was one free throw. Those numbers translate into a 7.1 pp100 and .071 floor %. Six of those possessions ended up as turnvoers. SMMB wasn't exactly firing on all cylinders, but they did manage to find the bottom of the basket more often. Haley Loesch was able to score six of the first seven SMMB points. SMMB led at half 20-8.
MS 15s were stuck in the same mode for the first portion of the second half. They had another drought, this time 7. They were down 30-19 with 5:48 left. So after 44 possessions MS15s were were at 43.2 pp100 and .205 floor %. MS15s did a 180 in the last 5:48 by scoring 20 points in their last 14 possessions a 142.9 pp100 and .643 floor %. MS15s did narrow the gap to to 36-32 with 1:32 with a basket by Kara Elofson. She had a chance for the &1, but it didn't fall and Tanya Kaufmann picked up the rebound for SMMB. She was fouled and drilled both free throws. Elofson scored again to get the margin back to five but time was evaporating. Leslie Wilson scored all six of her points in the last minute and SMBB held off the hard charging youngsters to move on to the semifinals.
IBCA Select I defeated SMMB 60-34 in the next round.
