CHAMPLIN PARK SUMMER LEAGUE
OSSEO orioles 52, MAPLE GROVE crimson 27

It was summer and the gyms were cooking. Tonight was the opening round of the Champlin Park summer basketball league and Osseo came out of the blocks with two wins, both against traditional rivals Maple Grove and Champlin Park (49-42). It is important to note there two 20 minute running time halves.

Osseo's quickness and pressure ensured that MG wasn't going to get great opportunities. MG led 6-2 early after a Taylor House basket. Then it was transition speed for Osseo as they started zipping down court. Danielle Mangen feasted on transition with six lay ups on the night. The other Oriole guards were buzzing too. Brianna Olson and Marny Ferrara combined for 30 points. They set the tempo on defense and revved up the motors on offense. Kylie Gottsman anchored the post play. It was 24-18 at half.

In the first half Taylor House had all 8 of her points. Then the Osseo defense limited her chances. There were long stretches of drought for the Crimson in the second half with 13 and 6. Mangen had three straight possessions for Osseo in which she scored lay ups. That broke an 8 possession drought for Osseo. Later in the second half Osseo was 6/8 on their possessions with Mangen again leading the charge with six as the score was 48-25. It was just a matter of time after that.

Marny Ferrara of Osseo hurt her ankle in the Champlin Park game.

Taylor House plays with Quest. They traveled to Kansas City two weeks ago when the rest of the 16s were playing in the Minnesota State AAU tournament. The Quest was 2-2 with one overtime loss.

I also charted the Totino Grace/Andover game TG won 53-27 and I will digest the numbers for tomorrow.
