BASKETBALL INSTRUCTION
I am using photos I have taken to illustrate basketball instruction and skills. I will try to run this series on Mondays the rest of the summer.
In this photo, the offensive player has their vision down. This happens across the board. The player isn't looking at the ball or their shoelaces, but they don't have an understanding of who is open, and where the rest of the defense is located. If that player could keep their vision under the net they would be that much more aware of what is happening. Now this player is coming in on transition, not in a half court situation, but the point is still valid.
On defense the player here does have her knees bent, but I always wanted my players lower than the player they were guarding. So #11 black can get a bit lower. I have never heard a coach say "you are too low on defense." this factor is also true across the board. #11 does have her arms/hands up which makes her bigger and passing will be more of a challenge. Many times the hands are down.
TEAS' PEEVES
Coach Teas is busy coming up with his defensive peeves. I should have his 13 peeves up later today on the links on the right.
RELAY NAMES
Hanna Muegge of Hopkins was part of the 4x100 relay team which finished 3rd in the AA portion of the state track meet. Hopkins came in at 49.15.
SUMMER LEAGUES
Concordia St. Paul is in action tonight. Some games of note: St. Paul Johnson vs Bloomington Kennedy at 6 pm. THIS IS WRONG. Concordia St. Paul is off this week. This game actually took place last week and Kennedy won all three quarters. Central had only two regulars show up. Concordia St. Paul resumes on the 18th of June.
SUMMER CAMPS
Champlin Park went 4-1 at the South Dakota State team camp this past weekend. Sioux Falls Washington claimed the championship.
