This game took place on Saturday, June 2
Minnesota AAU State Tournament
Cooper HS
16u Quarterfinals
NORTH TARTAN LARSON 75, MN STARS SMITH 53

In the first 16u State AAU quarterfinal game it was #1 North Tartan Larson topping #8 MN Stars Smith 75-53.

Early on MSS held an early lead at 9-3 as they scored on four of their first five possessions. Whitney Langen had six of those points as she scored on a put back and on a couple of post ups. MSS continued to hold on to the lead at 14-10. Then it was the NTL show. MSS was held scoreless for nine possessions and NTL had a 14-0 run to go up 24-14. That lead continued to build as the half went on. NTL led at half 41-25. Jackie Voigt had 12 points at half.

I don't want to be trite, but it was more of the same with little or no drama in the second half. The biggest MSS drought was six. The biggest margin NTL held was 63-41.
One side note: Eden Valley-Watkins teammates Hannah Linz (NTL) and Amber Junker (MSS) faced each other.

BY THE NUMBERS
North Tartan Larson
75, 72, 104.2, .486
MN Stars Smith 53, 72, 73.6, .333
Made 3s: MSS 5, NTL 3
Made fts: MSS 10, NTL 9
Assists: NTL 18, MSS 11
Bench: MSS 19, NTL 18

NTL can not afford to keep starting games slow out of the gate. They need to establish right away their position. Also NTL scored 12 points off put backs. Against a bigger team that blocks out those points evaporate.
Also if you notice MSS made one more free throw, but NTL went to the line more often due to three "&1s."
