AAU STATE TOURNAMENT
First off I don't know why but everytime I tried to phone in my information to gabcast the line was busy. I will have to investigate.
The Minnesota State AAU tournament concluded today with three championship games.
In the 16s it was NC Heat getting revenge against North Tartan in convincing fashion 77-61.
NC Heat needed overtime to get to the finals. In a game of twists and turns they beat MN Stars Hested 80-71. NCH led at half 41-28, and at one point in the second half 47-30. At the 12 minute mark it was 53-40 NCH. After a fiery time out MSH came out with a different attitude. The started to inch back. They really took off with a 20-4 run over the last 8:30 of the game. MSH led 68-64 with 46.9 seconds left after two Georgie Jones free throws. Brianna Edwards made two free throws on the next NCH possession. Kiara Allums missed twice at the line for MSH. Tayler Hill tied the game at 68 with two tosses at 23.3 left. Neither team scored on their last two possessions. In overtime it was MSH that broke the ice first and led 71-68. They didn't score the rest of the way. NCH out scored them 12-0 to finish. Carly Rothfusz went to the line with the score 71-70 MSH and she missed two free throws, but got the key rebound. She was fouled and this time made both with what proved to be the winning margin. Free throws were added by Katya Leick, Ephesia Holmes and Hill again. Courtney Krenz finished it off with a open shot. Hill had 38 points in the semis. NCH survived a scare.
North Tartan had to survive their own scare with a 71-66 game with Metro Stars Black. This game went on at the same time as the NCH/MSH game so I didn't get a chance to watch.
In the championship, NCH exploded past NT after a 16 all tie. NCH outscored NT 24-12 the rest of the first half to go up 40-28. That movement continued even more so in the second half with a solid 22-4 run. Combined that was a 46-16 hole NT could not find dig themselves out of. Hill had 28 in this game. NCH won their fifth straight (at least) state tournament in a row going back to 12u.
In the third place game MN Stars Hested bounced back with a 84-41 win over Metro Stars Black.
In the fifth place game MN Stars Borowicz beat Total Package.
The 15s went to Metro Stars in a nailbiter 43-42 over MN Stars. The Metro Stars met the Minnesota Stars for the third time in the past four years in the state championship game and it was the Metro Stars escaping with a 43-42 victory to win their fourth straight state title. Brianna Tisch lead the Metro Stars scoring attack in the second half scoring 12 points on 6/6 shooting from the field. Molly Duehn and Karin Gibson hit key three points down the stretch and Kara Elofson put the game away with 2 free throws in the closing seconds.
The 14s title went to North Tartan 65-53 over Metro Stars. This contest got as close as four a couple of times in the second half. NT finished strong with Shakila Boler providing a lift.
