A LOOK AT THE LYNX (from Friday, June 1)
NEW YORK liberty 70, MINNESOTA lynx 60
I was at the Minnesota State AAU tournament, so here is what I gleaned from the play by play
Here is the WNBA Story, and box.
1. Minnesota is coming out flat every quarter. They were a collective 2/20, a .100 floor % and miserable 15 pp100. NY happened to be better, but by no means overpowering at 9/20 a .450 floor % and a 90 pp100. The second quarter was even worse for the Lynx with a 1/10 start. The third wasn't much better with a 2/10 start. The fourth was slightly better with a 3/10 start. Coming out of the blocks needs to improve.
2. MN had droughts of 7, and 6 with some 5s.
3. The breaking point came in the fourth quarter when NY had a 7/9 possession run with a 16-7 point run in the middle four minutes.
4. NY outscored MN in layups/driving layups with 13 to 7 for MN. I am guessing NY is able to get in to the heart of the defense with MN players too high, leaning too far forward, and lunging for balls.
