Minnesota AAU State Tournament
16u preliminary game

Cooper High School
SOUTHERN MINNE MAGIC BLACK 52, MINNESOTA BREEZE 37

Since I have a lot of games to digest, the individual portion of the comments will be brief if any. The game details will be brief when needed, more detailed when more was happening.

This was a preliminary game in the 16u Minnesota State AAU tournament at Cooper and the #14 seed Southern Minne Magic Black defeating #19 Minnesota Breeze 52-37. I had not seen either team this year and that is why this particular game was chosen. Games were 20 minute stop time halves.

Both teams were not tickling the twine often at the start. Mackenzie Esson did start things off with a basket for SMMB but then went into a 9 possession slumber. The Breeze was mild as well with a 4-2 lead 10 possessions. After that they went into a 9 possession sequence when there was no breeze. SMMB went on a 11-2 run to go up13-6. Nikki Gosson had four point in the run. Then, all of a sudden, the heavens opened and there was scoring a plenty. Both teams combined had nine straight scores so the margin didn't budge with SMMB up 24-12. After that the Breeze was still for 11 possessions. SMMB did mangage to score two more baskets to lead at half 28-12.

The offenses got the kinks out at half time. The Breeze did outscore SMMB 25-24 in the second half, but not enough movement to stop the presses. SMMB led 47-24 with 10 minutes left. The Breeze held a 13-5 advantage down the stretch.
