What becomes of the Broken Hearted?

#3 posting 2.14.2006

Out & About: Broken Hearted edition
Orono 59, St. Anthony 45

The reason for the broken heart? Getting to the game with about 9 minutes to go.

It has happened again. The internet has lied to me.
I checked the MN State HS web site. Nothing. Nada. Zip. The game does not exist on the Orono site. Then I checked the Minnesota-sportscores.com and they said 7:30, same with Sports Huddle on the StarTribune site. When I got home I checked the Orono HS site and they don't even have schedules up. Why the screw up?

I get to Orono at 7, walk in the gym and think "Oh no, the JVs are running late. But hearing the announcer I realized it was the varsity. I went to the balcony rail and there was only 8:30 left in the game. By the time I started charting it was about 7:12 to go. The fact was the game was over by then Orono had a commanding 54-33 lead. So when I watched St. Anthony outscored Orono 12-4 during mop up time or cruise control time. I never saw how Orono did it's damage. I did see some players, but not enough to get a great grasp. I basically wanted to see two players: Orono's Megan Milusenic and St. Anthony's Jenny Ostrom.

Megan Milusenic looks athletic, she had a steal, drove in for the layup, looked like she may have been fouled, but instead was called for traveling. She did bring the ball up on occasion. She had 13 on the night.
Jenny Ostrom: Big frame, scored 6 points when I was watching and assisted on another. Able to handle the ball. strong. force on the boards. Ostrom had 21 on the night. RF: will be even tougher if she lifted seriously. foot speed.

BY THE NUMBERS
What Numbers? this is an estimation based on average possessions.
Orono 59, 67, 88.1
St. Anthony 45, 67, 67.2
However I charted 16 possessions for each team in 7+ minutes. If that was the pace for the entire night then there were 82 possessions which change the numbers
Orono 59, 82, 72.0
St. Anthony 45, 82, 54.9
I don't believe possessions were less than 67 for some reason. I could not give floor % with any certainty.

ADDED BONUS
Breanna Salley, St. Francis had 43 points against Rogers Saturday. She scored 35 points in the second half. She had foul problems in the first half and sat the last seven minutes. St. Francis trailed by six at half and Salley scored the first nine points in the second half to put SF up by three. Rogers pressed at this point and Salley would get the ball in the middle and take it to the glass against the back end of the Rogers press. The last five minutes Rogers went to a trapping defense and Salley would get the ball at the free throw line and score.
I have retrofitted the game with St. Francis and Irondale. If you want the analysis you will have to go back to December to check it out. But here are the numbers for the players

A Valentine wish---get the schedules right on the websites. I am tired of driving 35 minutes to watch 9 minutes of action. Be professional.

Next up a rehash of the Tuesday night action on Wednesday AM
