Out & About: Meadow Creek /West Lutheran

#4 posting 2.19.2006

Championship MCAA
Meadow Creek 43, West Lutheran 31

Meadow Creek never trailed in this contest. It was tied three times the last time at 13. The atmosphere of the game was bigger time than any of the previous games. Maybe it was due to the fact that both teams were playing intense man defense. Maybe it was the crowd. Maybe it was two teams in the top ten of class A looking for an edge as they more than likely will face each other in the 4A title game. To give an example of the tough defense, or lack of offense, WL went on an 0/9 drought early in the game. MC's worse dry spell was an 0/5 during the same time frame. WL had an 0/5 dry spot right before half. The game was tied at 13 when MC started an 8-2 run to end the half. Abby Thom scored all 8 points including the three pointer to make the score 21-15 at half.

The game never was close or close to being close in the second half. WL got the game to 8 a couple of times, the last being at 35-27 with 9 minutes to go, but each time MC would find an answer. MC also had the fact that they were in the bonus with 7:49 to go work in their favor. From that point on they made all their points at the charity stripe and outscored WL 7-4. For the most part MC did not take any shots that were uncalled for. This sets up a potential rubber game if the two should meet in the 4A finals.

Height Matters: MC 5-8.2; WL 5-7

The crowd came to life in the championship. The WL fans did not sit down except at time outs. They also provided continuous noise so a spectator thought they were in an ACC game. MC added to the atmosphere with 14 cheerleaders--the most I've seen this year total.

next up about 9 pm tonight: week ahead, MCAA vs Valley; A vs rest.
