Out & About: Cretin-Derham Hall/Woodbury

# 3 posting 2.10.2006

Cretin-Derham Hall 60, Woodbury 42

CDH had their way with Woodbury for the most part in a battle between two Suburban East and 3AAAA rivals. The game started off with Woodbury being quite deliberate trying to crack the CDH defensive code. Woodbury held a brief lead in the first half at 8-6 on a three from Jessica Thone, but Lindsay Laur tied it up on the next possession. She scored 8 of CDH's first 10 points. From the Woodbury lead until the end of the half CDH went on a 19-4 run. Early in the run CDH scored on four consecutive possessions, and leading the charge at that point was Sarah Hendricks with a shot from the left baseline from Karel, a put back, and shot from the right baseline on a pass from Natalie Lyman. Woodbury was 0/11 for the end of the half as they could not solve CDH's zone defense. Five of those possessions ended in turnovers. CDH led 27-12 at half.

In the second half CDH did some switching of defense. They started in man, but soon got out of that as Woodbury started to get into rhythm. Woodbury started the half with a 17-10 run. They finished that run with a 5/6 possession string. Sarah Hintz led Woodbury during the run with six points. Zoraa Quoie ended the run with a steal and lay up to cut the lead to 37-29. Then each team did not score for their next three possessions. Both teams then subbed, but CDH took advantage of the switch as they scored the next three times they touched the ball to push that lead back to 45-29. It was more or less even the rest of the way as neither team played offense with any consistency. Hintz was about the only offense Woodbury could generate. She had all of her 13 points in the second half. There was no suspense in this contest.

Height matters: CDH 5-10, Woodbury 5-9.4
Department of Defense: CDH mostly 2/3, some man at the start of the second half; Woodbury 1/3/1; 2/3

Woodbury Player Evaluations
If you look at the floor % it is quite evident that everyone needs to work on their offense skills--especially shooting. Shooting from behind the arc would be important since most teams are going to pack it in with a zone of some sort. So every player gets a RF: work on shooting.
