Out & About: Martin County West/Alden-Conger

#7 posting 2.12.2006

Fifth place
Martin County West 50, Alden-Conger 38

Alden-Conger was the 8th seeded team and upset Truman 43-42 in the consolation semis to make the 5th place game. AC started off as if they were going after upset victim number 2. They held an early lead upto 6-5. MCW tied it at 8. MCW at that point started kicking their offense into gear. They had a run of five possessions and outscored AC 13-6 to take a 22-14 lead. Abby Weiss, scored MCW's first 12 points. Anita Whitehead was the first player from MCW to break into the scoring column other than Weiss. MCW finished the half with another string of four and 10-2 run to lead 32-16. MCW had a 114.3 pp100 ratio the first half. The second half was to be different.
MCW only made three field goals in the second half. MCW was 1/11 to start the second half. But for all their struggles, AC could not capitalize or make up much ground. AC did put together four possessions with Politz and Jensen combining for nine points in a 9-2 AC run. The game stalled at an 8/6 split, but AC cut the MCW lead to 41-37 when Becca Bryson cashed in two free throws. Right away Rachelle Eckman answered to push the lead back to 43-37. That started a 9-1 MCW run as the Mavericks won 50-38. MCW only made three field goals the second half.

Martin County West Player Evaluations
Starters
Janaya Anderson 0, 1, 0.0, .000 point guard, gets others involved. RF: needs to look for scoring opportunities
Anita Whitehead 18, 12, 150.0, .833 steady, mainly inside, as you can see very efficient with her possessions. went to the line four times in the second half and came away with six points.
Lindsey Bontjes 1, 8, 12.5, .125
Abby Weiss 20, 17, 117.6, .588 dominated the first half with 18 points. I liked the way she moves, her height on the perimeter, her range, her crashing the boards, her youth. RF: needs to be consistent throughout the whole game. could get stronger physically
Rachelle Eckmann 6, 9, .66.7, .333 big player, strong frame, aggressive RF: maybe too aggressive as she picked up too many fouls
Bench
Kelsey Jensen 0, 2, 0.0, .000

Alyssa Bangert 6, 9, 66.7, .333
Emily Appel 7, 8, 87.5, .500 big player, showed some range outside the lane. Also was more physical than I expected. decent frame. RF: fouls, but that may because she is much bigger and refs feel bad for the little player. perhaps quickness. I feel should dominate more (looking at boxes). maybe fouls are a constant problem.

Abby Christensen 0, 1, 0.0, .000
Haley Johnson 0, 2, 0.0, .000
