Out & About: Truman/LeCenter

#6 posting 2.12.2006

7th place
Truman 66, LeCenter 62

The first two games were round robin with the four teams playing each other once on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. This game was the 7th place game meaning that each team was beat on Monday and Thursday. Again this was a step up in performance by teams and players. Luckily it was also a step up for non fouling.

LeCenter owned the first half; Truman, or should I say Betsy Wendt, owned the second half. LeCenter put together runs of 4, 3, and 3 in the first half. Emilee Traxler was doing the damage inside. Paula Novotny was delivering off her defense. LeCenter had a 15-6 run early in the half. Truman was having it's problems with droughts of 6 and 6. After watching the first two games I was happy to see a team with a functioning offense and offensive skills. LeCenter finished the half with a 9-2 run. LeCenter was at a 97.3 pp100 rating in the first half as they led 36-23.

In the second half LC pushed their lead to 38-23. Then it was Wendt time. Truman went on a six possession run. Wendt opened the scoring with a three, scored on a drive, but missed the free throw, scored in the paint, hit another 3 from the left side, and again scored on a driving lay, with a foul and this time the free throw. So in the 15-2 run she had 13 points. Wendt had 9 in the first half. Now it was a contest. Wendt stole a pass went in for the layup to tie the game a 42. Amanda Heckman of Truman gave them the lead at 44-42. The game was tied at 44 and 46. Wendt broke the tie with a three from the right side 49-46. From there Truman held the lead. The closest LeCenter got was after Paula Novotny cashed in a three from up top to make it 55-54. Truman then went on another 6 possession run, but this time the scoring was spread out. The offense for Truman ratched up to 122.9 in this half.
