Out & About: Winsted Holy Trinity/Concordia Bloomington

#4 posting 2.18.2006

5th place
Winsted Holy Trinity 52, Concordia Bloomington 49

Winsted Holy Trinity lost to Concordia Bloomington earlier in the season by 19. They were able to turn that into a three point win tonight. This game proved to be the closest of the bunch today.

WHT led early 9-3 as Dana Chalupsky provided five points, 2 on a steal and lay up and another on a three. CB's first six points were scored by Kaitlyn Kamp. CB went on a 13-3 run and a 16-9 lead Miriam Devere dialed long distance, and I mean long as she takes her 3s a good step and a half beyond the arc. Like a see saw WHT went on an 8-0 run to regain the lead 18-16. Devere was fouled on a three and made two to end the scoring at half time and leaving both teams tied at 18.

The second half saw early jockying for position and three ties, the last coming at 25. WHT was in the middle of a five possession scoring string during this time and took the lead for good when Melissa Entinger made a shot from Chalupsky's pass. WHT had another string of 6/7 possessions with Chalupsky providing five and Entinger worming her way in the lane for four. WHT's lead expanded to six 38-32, but Devere threw in two bombs between another worm move by Entinger to make the score 40-38 WHT. WHT's last six point lead came at 48-42 on Amy Eiden's lay up off CB's press. Jenny Schonwill came back with a 3 from the right side in a 48-45 lead for WHT. Again CB pressed, again Eiden had a lay up 50-45. Judge scored and was fouled, but missed the free throw with 37 seconds left. Eiden rebounded, was fouled, but missed both free tosses. She got her rebound and traveled. CB's Kamp scored off a pass from Devere and that ended a 9-4 run by CB. Again with the press, again with Eiden and the lay up. That ended the scoring at 52-49. Judge was fouled with 3.7 seconds left, but the scoring was over.

Height matters WHT 5-8, CB 5-7.6
Department of Defense: both teams prefered 2/3
