3rd place MCAA Tournament
New Life 60, Maranatha 49
Maranatha grabbed an early 6-0 lead with Nicole Malzahn providing four of the points. All of the six points came in the paint as Maranatha utilized their taller line. New Life went on a 10-0 run with Olivia Mann cashing in two threes. Maranatha took a 0/7 possession snooze. Maranatha awoke from it's offensive slumber to go on a 9-4 run in which Mahlzahn again provided six points. She had 10 points in the first nine minutes. Maranatha held a 15-14 lead. In the second nine minutes Maranatha had a 1/17 possession string. New Life was better, but not by much as they were 5/17 during the same period. NL regained the lead on Danielle Schmidt's old style three point play on a drive, basket, foul and one free throw. They never trailed after this. Mann added another three from behind the arc for a 24-18 lead. Maranatha finished the half with five more points to cut the lead to 24-23. NL finished the half with an 0/7 string.
Neither team scored it's first three possessions to start the second half. Once the offenses found the end of the basket NL went on a 12-5 run to increase their lead to 36-28. Jenny Brocker provided the ammunition with 7 points during this run. Maranatha would claw back in the game on the long distance bombs of Kaylee Groves. She fired in five 3s in the second half, six total for the game. Maranatha closed the gap to 38-35, but NL went on a 16-8 run to get some breathing space 54-43. Groves and DeRosier popped 3s to cut that margin to 54-49, but they were out of ammunition and Maranatha was not going to score the rest of the night. For all their height Maranatha did not dominate the boards. NL had 10 second chance points in the second half alone.
Height Matters: Maranatha 5-8.4, New Life 5-7.4
Department of Defense: Both relied on 2/3. There was some pressing by New Life
