Out & About: 3A South Quarterfinals

#1 posting 2.26.2006

Yesterday I went down to Worthington to see the 3A South Quarterfinal games. I tried posting last night when I got back around midnight, but there were some technical difficulties.

I used to coach the boys in Ellsworth and it was my first time in the Worthington gym since 1987 when we lost in the district 8 finals to Pipestone. I have many different folks I saw and visited with as I charted the games today--Dean Schnaible and Randy Strand of Adrian; Loren Carlson AD at Fulda--he is the uncle of a former player I coached (Dana Carlson, Ellsworth '86); John Schmidt who is a referee and worked the Adrian/Southwest Star game; Gregg Slaathaug Fulda coach; Randy Butson, former Edgerton boys and girls basketball coach. I didn't get a chance to visit with Cal Hoekstra, SW MN Christian girls coach and former boys coach; Don Kuiper, Worthington AD, and former girls basketball coach.

Well here are the results--details to follow tomorrow
#1 Murray County Central 66, #8 Sioux Valley-Round Lake-Brewster 37----MCC’s Emily Bose, a 6-0, 2010, C had 20 points
#5 Adrian 96, #4 Southwest Star 86 Overtime----Sam Lynn made a half court shot to send it into overtime for Adrian. In OT Adrian made 17 points, all at the free throw line. This was coach Randy Strand’s 300th career win.
#2 Fulda 66, # 10 Hills-Beaver Creek 57----The game was tied at 50 as Fulda closed out the game with a 16-7 run. Sarah Raddle of Fulda notched 11 of those points. After the game it was revealed one of their Fulda classmates was killed in a car accident. She had a sister, and a couple of cousins on the team according to coach Slaathaug.
#3 Southwest MN Christian 63, #6 Edgerton 53---In the battle of Edgerton the private school won again. The game got as close as 51-48 as Amy Kallemeyn scored 12 straight for Edgerton, but SW MN Christian closed off the game with a 12-5 run with four different players contributing.

Next up tomorrow am with more details on these games, more information on Iowa region finals, Wisconsin section play, MN section play, the Twin City game, and the IL A Finals. Also I have a mountain of papers to digest, not to mention the fleshing out of the JUCO Tournament.
