TEAM WI SELECT SAMUELS WINS AMES TOURNAMENT
UPSETS CSS BISON
What a difference a week makes. Team WI Select Samuels, at full strength this weekend, beat the #2 gbbrecruit ranked CSS Nebraska Bison 17u team in the championship game of the All Iowa Attack tournament in Ames today 50-47. One of the Bison losses on the year was to NC Heat in an early tournament in the Carolinas. TWSS led 40-31 in the second half and withstood two Bison attempts to take the lead. The Nebraska team closed to 40-37 after three straight scores. Wisconsin defense then held the Bison scoreless for six possessions and pushed the lead back to 45-39. Nebraska closed to 48-47 with under a minute to go after a three by KK Houser, but didn't connect again. Wisconsin added two free throws by Whitney Rawden with 5.9 seconds left to secure the win.
Last year Team WI Select (not this team, but the 08s) beat the Bison in the semifinals in Ames 66-54. TWS won the tournament last year too with a 74-61 win over the hosts All Iowa Attack.

Earlier in the day TWSS beat another Wisconsin team WI Hoops Select in the quarterfinals 49-21. It was 25-9 at the half in this game. There was not much drama to report on this contest. In the semis TWSS beat MN Fury.

I charted the Bison vs the Nebraska Twisterz in the other semifinal. In that game the Bison took control right from the start 16-5 after 9 possessions and won 62-43. They were crisp, efficient and aggressive in that match up.

The first game of the day that I charted was in the 15u division. Team Iowa beat MN Fury 54-43. The Fury were the 15u champs last weekend at the Summer Jam. It was 31 all when TI went on an 11-0 run to take control of this contest. That margin held up the rest of the way.

Joining me on the journey down 35 to the Courts on Duff, the home of All Iowa Attack, were Tony Geer of communityhoops.blogspot.com and Steven Froemming of Stevenssports.com.
Geer filled in the role of Coach Teas helping with spotting and numbers when I was scribbling down notes. Steven covered the action on court #2. So his reports will be a tad different than mine. He covered the championship of the 15u division, an All Iowa affair, which the hosts All Iowa Attack won over Team Iowa 45-39. He also has reports on four other games.

The out & abouts this week will be as follows
Monday (Rogers Breakdown championships)
Alexandria vs Rogers--Blue
Becker vs Maple Grove--Gold
Morris vs Simley-Silver
Tuesday (All Iowa Attack)
15u semifinals: Team Iowa vs MN Fury 15
16u quarterfinals: Team WI Select Samuels vs WI Hoops Select
Wednesday (All Iowa Attack)
16u semifinals: Nebraska CSS Bison vs Nebraska Twisterz
16u championship: Team WI Select Samuels vs Nebraska CSS Bison.
