CHAMPLIN PARK SUMMER LEAGUE
OSSEO orioles 48, TOTINO-GRACE eagles 39

Osseo’s Dani Mangen hit three 3s on three consecutive possessions to break open a 33 tie game. Mangen had 18 points on the night.

This game feature two teams that were in the state tournament in March. Totino-Grace won the AAA division and Osseo ended the undefeated streak of then #1 Centennial to get to the big dance. Both teams will need to replace 2008 players. Both teams were not at full strength tonight. Missing for Osseo was Kylie Gottsman and Jessica Fife while Lizzi Naumann was not playing tonight for TG.

One interesting thing about these summer leagues—dual uniform numbers. Half way through the contest you realize there are two number 11s or two number 23s and you have to back track and modify the stats. It makes for quirky notations.

TG took the first lead with a Kaeli Kraska three on the second possession for the Eagles. TG’s biggest lead came at 7-2 as they scored three times in their first five possessions. TG then only scored one time in 12 possessions. Osseo took advantage of the TG dry spell with a 12-2 run. Tina Ewing jump started the Orioles with two 3s. The Orioles extended their lead to 24-16 at the half. Ewing had seven points at half time.

TG started chipping into that lead on the first possession of the half as Libby Norris scored on a drive. Osseo regained their momentum and pushed the lead out to 31-22. TG scored on four straight possessions to cut the nine point Oriole lead to two 33-31. Osseo was mired in a 1/8 offensive sequence. TG tied the game at 33 on a Norris basket. Both teams traded non scoring possessions. Then it was Mangen time. Three straight times Mangen fired away from the left corner against the TG 1/2/2. At that point TG felt like Sisyphus. With running time and two minutes left the comeback effort was going to be improbable. Osseo’s biggest margin came at 46-33. TG did finish strong with three of four scores, but all it did was cut the margin to single digits.
