DAKOTA SHOWCASE
POOL PLAY
METRO STARS WHITE 49, NEBRASKA TWISTERZ 47

This was the tightest game of the entire tournament that I charted on either day. And this game meant something. Both teams coming into the contest were both 2-0. Whoever won would play in the Elite 8 and play on the wood floor. The loser would go to the icebox. Metro Stars White had the early advantage at 13-5 as they scored on 7 of their first 10 possessions. That hot start didn’t last for MSW. The Twisterz finished the half with a 14-7 run.

The second half went back and forth with 10 ties, and 8 lead changes. Neither team held a bigger lead than three in the second half. The Twisterz used the free throw line as a good point stream with 13 second half points. The game was tied at 45 with 3:10 left when Laura Bruce was fouled for MSW. She made the second free throw for a one point lead. Natasha Mueller missed on a drive in the next NT possession and Bridget Schuneman rebounded. Jennifer Field went to the line this time and made the first free throw, but missed the second with 2:39 to go. On the next Twisterz possession Stacia Robertson scored on a put back to knot the game up again at 47. Julie Kruse scored what proved to be the game winner on a pass from high school teammate Field. Robertson picked up a charge on the next Twisterz possession with Field taking the hit. On the next two MSW possessions their players missed crucial free throws giving the Twisterz hope. NT had a couple cracks on their second to the last possession, but neither dropped. At the buzzer Karly Buer launched a 3 that did not fall.
