GREAT LAKES SHOOTOUT
Gold Division Championship
UW Stout, Menomonie, WI
TEAM WI SELECT 14s 62, MN STARS MARTIN 51

Team Wisconsin Select 14s won the Gold division championship beating MN Stars Martin 62-51. Team WI Select 14s was playing up one age division while MN Stars Martin was playing up two age divisions. Team WI Select 14s Taylor Thomas led both teams in scoring with 14 points.

At the start of the game MSM might have had that deer in the headlight look as they trailed 12-0. After that the game was even. MN Stars Martin didn't score for 11 possessions and didn't score from the floor until their 16th possession. MSM took time out at 6-0 trying to get the situation righted, but the TWS scoring continued. Thomas had 8 of the first 12 TWS14 points. Once MSM got the olive out of the bottle, they scored 21 points in 23 possessions, a healthy 91.3 pp100. But for the half MSM checked in at 61.8 pp100. TWS14 led 29-10 with 4:40 to go in the half. MSM finished the half with a 11-2 run. TWS14 had a 10 possession drought at the end of the first half.

TWS14 pushed the lead out to 48-31 with 9:30 left in the game. MSM did cut the margin back to the single digits with 4:40 left 53-44. TWS14 finished the second half better than the first with four straight scores, three of which came at the line. Cassie Hallstrand provided 8 points for TWS14 in the second half. Phyliss Webb matched her for MSM.
