I traveled to Menomonie for three championship games in the Great Lakes Shootout

GREAT LAKES SHOOTOUT
UW Stout, Menomonie, Wisconsin
High School Championship
COLFAX vikings 44, KETTLE MORAINE lasers 31

Colfax overcame an 11 point first half deficit to comeback to defeat Kettle Moraine 44-31 in the High School division championship. Colfax trailed 22-11 late in the first half. The Vikings turned it around with a 24-4 run stretching over the two halves. Jenni Gust of Colfax led both teams in scoring with 14 points. Gust ignited the second half rally with six of the first 11 Colfax points. Gust had 12 points in the second half.

KM led early 7-1 before Colfax tied it up at 11. That is when Colfax fell into a 15 possession drought and KM used that down time to add 11 points to their total for an 22-11 lead. Six Colfax possessions ended up as turnovers. The Vikings also had four missed free throws in the drought. Colfax halted their scoring absence on their last possession of the half when Laura Mau was fouled on a second chancer. She made the first and missed the second free throw. Kasey Laramy got the rebound and converted for a three point possession. KM led at half time 22-14.

The second half was a 180 degree switch from the first half. That late half scoring seemed to break the cycle. That ignited seven straight scores going into the second half. That was a 17-4 run just in seven possessions. The drought bug moved over to the Lasers. KM didn't go quite as long as Colfax did in the first half, but the unlucky 13 didn't help their cause at all. KM had four turnovers in that sequence. By the time KM scored again it was 35-26 for Colfax. The Vikings finished up on a 5/7 sequence to keep KM at bay.
