15U pool Play Game #3
LAKEVILLE NORTH 51, MN FURY 36
The single school Lakeville North team beat the multischool Fury team 51-36 in a pool play game. LN's core players reached the state tournament this year in the AAAA level. There were only four teams in this tournament so everyone played each team once through. The tournament winner was the MN Stars 15 team. The Stars beat LN on Saturday 48-46.
It was the Fury that struck first with Chrissy Holm scoring off a Sarah Peterson pass. LN scored three straight times to take a 6-2 lead with Rachel Banham hitting a pair of pull ups. But both teams had long periods of drought. After Holm's basket the Fury had a six possession drought. The Fury did get their game rolling with a mini run of three capped by Kika Greenlee's three. That bucket put the Fury back in front 10-8. Kaiya Sygulla hit a runner for LN to put them in the lead to stay at 12-11. Then Kelsie Ammann ripped three straight 3s for LN on an 11-6 run to go up 21-17. The Fury had another 7 possession lapse soon thereafter. LN built up their lead to 31-20. LN maintained that 11 point cushion the rest of the half. LN led 33-22 at the break.
There was no big movement either way in the second half. But droughts still struck. LN had an eight possession drought. The Fury was 1/9 in the same stretch. The Fury did close to 47-36 with 2:37 to go, but ended on a seven possession drought. LN's was 2/9 in their late game possessions (2/8 if you discount the last keep away possession). This was a tough battle and physical contest with jawing with the players. The refs had to silence both team book keepers late in the game with a dispute over the correct score. I am posting my scoring notes and not relying on either sides numbers.
