THE AAU WEEK THAT WAS #5
There has been a difference with the AAU tournaments and the MYAS tournaments. It appears to me more school based teams are drifting to the MYAS side of things, while the multi-school teams head more to AAU. Both types play in both tournaments, but as a percentage AAU has the bigger names involved in their tournaments---teams and players.
SIGNING TRENDS
Here is the breakdown of area states and their D1 signees along with the BCS schools (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, Pac 10, SEC)
Michigan 33---5
Wiscsonin 20----2
Minnesota 14----5
Iowa 10-----2
South Dakota 7----0
North Dakota 2-----0
But the biggest trend right now is the early verbal already the 2008 class has 15 verbals out there: Minnesota leads with 7 and that includes early verbals to D2 schools. IA and SD each have 3. In fact 3 in the 2009 class have made early verbals two from IA, one from SD. At this point last year the 07s had one player (Alyssa Karel) that had verballed.
TEAM OF THE WEEK
NC Heat won the Cooper AAU Tournament by beating the older Metro Stars 19u squad with four All Stars on the roster 68-55. NC Heat this year has their team right from the start. They added players to their roster late last year. They have another year together, and another HS year under their belt. Their starting unit has four players from Top 5 AAAA teams. The only player that isn't was (Berner) was injured and didn't have the impact this year in HS. They have size, speed, quickness and shooters. Their defense bothered the MS19 team and that was the difference. NC Heat was also the only team to crack 100 pp100.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
How is this team selected? #1 I had to see the player. #2 Player has to be +100 pp100 and +.500 floor % to be considered. That eliminates quite a few right there. If I saw the team twice (like Metro Stars 19u) I add all the numbers and run them through the formula. So consistency gets rewarded. I look at not only the offensive numbers but also the Defensive wraps and assists. Tayler Hill had 15 points and was 125.0 pp100 and .583 floor %. She also was had 7 D wraps and five assists. Plus her NC Heat team won the Cooper title. This also marks the first time a player was named player of the week without winning the Trench player in the game I watched.
