LAKEVILLE NORTH SUMMER LEAGUE
QUARTERFINALS
HOPKINS royals 40, DE LA SALLE islanders 22
Already it is play off time in Summer League basketball. Tonight the Lakeville North Summer League started their quarterfinal and it was a battle of familiar teams as the #4 and #5 seeds faced each other. Hopkins beat DeLaSalle 40-22. Less than a month ago DLS beat Hopkins 34-29. Then DLS had a few players missing this time: Jamelia Hudnell and Chelsey Jacox. Hopkins added Kara Elofson, but Hana Potter was out of town today. Is this another case of deja vu?
In many respects the pattern from Sioux Falls continued in this contest. Hopkins jumped up to a 7-0 lead as DLS went scoreless for their first six possessions. DLS cut the margin down to 10-7 with Tori Rule scoring five. DLS fell into another six possession drought. Hopkins led at half time 17-11.
The Hopkins defensive pressure forced nine DLS turnovers in the second half. DLS had problems getting the ball inbounds. DLS also had spacing issues as they crowded the ball like 4th grade soccer players. Hopkins broke the game open after a three by Laura Bruce and a steal and lay up &1 by Brianna Williams. Hopkins led at that point 37-21. That scoring burst plus an 8 possession Islander drought cemented the win for the Royals.
There will be no photo gallery tonight. It was too dark for photos in the Lakeville North Auxiliary gym.
