Your Daily Dose of Girls Basketball News & Information

THE IMPORTANCE OF TEAMWORK
I am bringing you a story from Fortune Magazine on the importance of Teamwork. The whole issue is devoted to the concept. It is part of their "Secrets of Greatness." The article that I am linking deals with "Why Dream Teams Fail" it gives examples in business and in the sports world (ie USA olympic basketball 2004, or the American baseball in the recent world championship). I think you can draw on other aspects of life to improve your basketball team. I would recommend going to the local magazine stand and picking up the issue.

RECRUITING=NO TITLES
Seattle
The Sea-King District voted to take away the titles that Chief Sealth won in 2005 & 2006. That means their state titles would also be taken away. The school will also forfeit the chance to play in the 2007 post season. Here is a lot more on a story we have been following throughout the year. This is how one state deals with recruiting violations. The article is from the Seattle Times.

COACHING NEWS
COLLEGE
Kieth Cieplicki resigned as Syracuse coach and will be replaced by current assistant Quentin Hillsman. Cieplicki coached the Orange for three years with a 28-55 record. Here is the AP story from the MLive web site. There is more at the Syracuse site including the press conference transcript, also the Hillsman story from Syracuse.
This isn't about coaching but Cathy Behr, former UM Crookston player class of 2004 is on the fast track. She will now be the assistant Athletic Director/Senior Women's Administrator at her alma mater. Here is the story from the Crookston Daily Times.
Jonelle Streed, former Cambridge-Isanti HS, and St. Cloud State University player has been named as an assistant at Arizona. She had been the video coordinator at Arizona. Here is the UA Press Release.

COACHING OPENINGS

SUMMER LEAGUE
MN
The Lakeville North Summer League opens on June 13th and continues on June 20, 27, 29, with playoffs July 6 and 11. There are nine teams in the league: Lakeville North; Prior Lake; Shakopee; Lakeville South; Hopkins; Burnsville; Red Wing; Eagan and Eastview. Game times are 5 pm and the last game starts at 8 pm.

Here are some photos provided by a reliable source. In photo #1 North Tartan's Alyssa Karel (#10 white) has received a pass and is falling toward the baseline. She has the presence of mind to turn and find Tara Steinbauer following for the lay up (photo #2)

In photo 3 Karel is going up for the layup and Breanna Salley (#23 black) goes up to block the shot. In the above middle shot Jillian Schurle is driving to the hoop with Janessa Wolf defending the ball. #33 white is Caitlyn Rowland. In the final photo Emily Neal's shot is blocked by Alyssa Karel on the left, and Jackie Voigt (#21 white).

If you missed the story/analysis here is the link on the North Tartan 16s/Metro Stars 19s game.

AAU ROSTERS

Speaking of teams, This site is made possible by the great teamwork of many folks including you folks the readers. I have received some above stories from you and I have received some help on my SOS on the all Conference missing list I posted yesterday. The photos add some pop. Thanks to the reliable source for all the help in that regard.
I will be adding photos from the other Hopkins games in due time.
Also yesterday was the first day working for my part timer, so I also have to thank her and of course the Geek Squad team too for setting up the network.

Next up tonight with the Elite Storm vs Queens of the Court 16 game from the Hopkins tournament last weekend.
