Midtown Y Results, Lynx vs Houston pt 1

#2 posting 6.11.2006
Your Daily Dose of Girls Basketball News & Information

Today I was at the Mpls Midtown YWCA for a local AAU Tournament. My hope was to see some teams I haven't seen yet. I did that, but the tournament was marred by forfeits at the 14/15 level. Also the staff at the Y could use a customer relations refresher course. They did not make my job easier. Obviously it is hard to compare to the Lynx who are great at treating the folks in the media. There you are valued and taken care of. Thanks Lynx for making the experience worthwhile and a pleasure.

I will highlight in red when I will run the stories.

BY THE NUMBERS
MN 62, 77, 80.5, .390
Houston 75, 76, 98.7, .487

If we take away the late sub portion of the game for MN, the defensive numbers drop to 73.2, .352. The best the Lynx had done before was a pp100 of 91.0 and a floor % of .448. MN held Houston scoreless for the first 7 possessions of the 4th quarter to cement the victory. They also held Houston to an 0/7 drought in the second quarter. The Lynx used the windex to clean the boards to the tune of 28 defensive on the night. Houston had 28 total for the game. MN had 36. MN also forced 13 turnovers to Houston's 11. Now the Lynx must maintain the defensive seran wrap intensity for the rest of the season, on the road and at home, if they intend to play after August 13.

Next up: tomorrow morning with Thorpe on a Soap Box, general news of the day, and a Look at the Lynx part II offensive style.
