Your Daily Dose of Girls Basketball News & Information

This game took place on Sunday, June 4th in the Hopkins Tournament
MN Metro Stars White 52, MN Summit Blue 41

What a difference three weeks make. MMSW has shown great improvement in their offensive execution. They were moving with more vim, vigor and sense of urgency in the win against MSB. Right from the Git Go MMSW grabbed the game and didn't let go. Danielle Dove got things started with trey and Danae Moore added two more on the next possession with free throws. MMSW was up 9-0 before Jennifer Oligmueller scored for MSB. MSB started off 0/6 on their possessions. Two differing styles were evident in the first half. MMSW scored 13 of their 28 points at the line, while MSB canned five 3s in the first half including 3 late in the half by Emily DeWitt. By contrast MMSW only cashed in one 3, while MSB only made two free throws. MMSW led 28-23 at the half.

Tanya Dickey did score on a drive to open the half for MSB and cut the lead to 28-25. Moore scored off a steal and lay up for MMSW to give them a bigger cushion. A new member for MMSW, Caitlyn Von Bokern scored a couple possessions in a row on a high/ low and again inside with a power move. She was added to the team with Steph Sension injured. Also MMSW had Lauren Barber drop from the team due to overscheduling, and Hannah Muegge was out with an injury. Most of the second half the game see sawed between a five point MMSW lead to nine point margin. MMSW did endure a six possession drought in the middle portion of the half, but MSB could not take advantage of the down time and actually was 1/8 during the heart of that drought. The key adjustments in the second half for MMSW was that MSB, after ripping the nets for five 3s had not one in the second half. But MMSW did not keep up their parade to the line either with only four free throws made compared to the 13 in the first half.

MN METRO STARS WHITE 16S
STARTERS
Danielle Dove, Burnsville 13, 14, 92.9, .429 much more focused, and playing with purpose this game. good range. RF: balance at times. Turnovers come on passing the ball in--especially deep balls. Exposed ball on lay up, was fouled, but against teams with better hands won't get by with that.
Danae Moore, Eastview 11, 8, 137.5, .625 Another that played with urgency. Grabbed my attention. better anticipation, good speed. went to the line three times in the first half. RF: tended to disappear some back in the shadows in the second half.
Jackie Hiebert, Hopkins 7, 11, 63.6, .364 solid inside. Delivered the defensive rebounds. good hands. Went to the line three times. RF: Some footwork violations.
Maggie Slawson, Holy Angels 6, 9, 66.7, .333 forced to take on point guard duties. Again another that played with great energy from previous times. Nice sharp, crisp passes on the day. Nice pull up jumper. playing both ends. RF: probably better suited as an off guard.
Siri Hill, Eastview 2, 1, 200.0, 1.000 got knocked down and out taking a charge. RF: some dangerous passes that made it through. not as active on offense as she needs to be.

MN SUMMIT BLUE
STARTERS
Jennifer Oligmueller, Osseo 11, 14, 78.6, .429 six ft inside player, but can move on the perimeter. RF: should take advantage of opportunities to cut on offense.

Alyssa Kellas, Coon Rapids 0, 1, 0.0, .000 big, but: RF: never grabbed the game. stared down passes.

TRENCH PLAYER
Danae Moore

BY THE NUMBERS
MN Metro Stars White 52, 57, 91.23, .439
MN Summit Blue 41, 58, 70.7, .345
The MMSW pp100 jumped 13 points to 91.2. The two other times I saw this team the best pp100 the achieved was 79. A corresponding improvement in the floor % was evident moving from their previous high of .397. As I stated before the sense of purpose and execution have greatly improved. The way they attacked the basket in the first half shows they are more aggressive with the ball, and also shows their improved execution. Their defensive numbers have improved with a new low in pp100 and floor %. Their previous #s were between 79-86 on pp100 and around .411.
As far as Summit Blue goes their numbers have been pretty consistent in the two games that I have watched. The 3 ball game for them is a key. Defensively their #s again are consistent. They were slightly better this game.

Next up: Tomorrow with the news of the day and later tomorrow the last game from the Hopkins tournament--Elite Storm vs Queens of the Court.
