This game took place Saturday, June 17 in the Bloomington Jefferson AAU tournament
15Blue Semifinals
MN Stars Antl 59, Team WI 14 Select 48

First off MN Stars Antl refers to the coach of the team. There is more than one MN Stars team at the 15 age level. TW14S was playing up an age level. The difference is in MN youngsters can play on the varsity at an early age. The MSA team had more varsity experience and more physical presence. They grabbed a 13-6 lead early on scoring on 6 of 8 possessions. Micha Sater had six to start the game. After a 4 possession drought, MSA hit for 3 in a row and pushed the lead to 20-6. TW14S suffered a 9 possession drought during this time. But they soon got their groove back later in the half with a six possession string. They went on a 13-2 run to cut the lead to 25-20. Sam Hoyt drilled two 3s for WI, and Anna Cole, the other twin tower, had five to get TW14S back in the contest. But the consistency switched again for TW14S as they went through a 5 possession dry spell late in the half. MSA led 31-22 at half.

TW14S scored five points to open the second half and cut the lead to 31-27. MSA was mired in a 8 possession drought as bad as the Sahara. They had seven missfires and only one turnover. They were only getting one shot per possession during this stretch. They snapped out of it with a put back basket by Jesse Althoff. She added another basket on the next possession and MSA had regained the upper hand. The closest the game got after that was 40-33

BY THE NUMBERS
MN Stars Antl 59, 70, 84.3, .400
Team WI 14 Select 48, 69, 69.6, .362
The odd thing in this game was TW14S was more aggressive offensively. They made 15 free throws, while MSA only made six. The 3 ball went to MSA 4-3. TW14S will be stronger with a year of varsity under their belts. They probably need bigger guards in the future. Their guards are plenty quick, but I don't know if they will stretch up much. Their posts are set. They have the size to get the job done.

A word on the photos: These are NOT from this weekend, but from the Menomonie Memorial Day Classic. These photos are used to show the TW14S team. MSA will have another story this week, and the photos should be up for them later.

Photo #1 has Griffin going up for the rebound. #2 Griffin at the line with her shot form. I don't know the number for the player in the next couple photos (if you know who they are let me know & I will get the names up). Any way Photo #3 has a TW14S getting hit by a Kansas player on the left side. Photo #4 has a transition lay up, again player unnamed.

Photo #5 --you guessed right, unknown player squeezing through two players on the way for a lay up. Photo #6 has Sharde Mayne driving down the lane. Griffin is on the right block. Photo #7 has Mayne (I think) on the drive to the basket.

Photo #8 another unknown player for a lay up.
As you can see Black #s on Red jerseys isn't the best for the camera. White piping or just white #s would be the best. The best uniforms I have seen are from Total Package & Iowa Select teams. They have the names on the back of the jersey and the colors have a good constrast.

Next up: tomorrow morning with the general news, with later in the day Team WI 17 vs Green Bay Metro 17.
