This game took place Sunday, June 18 at Bloomington Jefferson
19/17 Quarterfinals
Team WI 17 Select 48, Green Bay Metro 17 44
I did not see the first half of this game (I had to eat due to my diabetic schedule). However I did catch the second half of this battle of Wisconsin. TW17S came out stroking to start the 2nd half as they strung together five straight possessions which added up to a 10-3 run and a 38-20 lead. But TWI17S had problems connecting after that. They suffered a 6 possession drought in the middle of the half and GBM took advantage of that with a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 42-32. TW17S led 46-35 with about 4 minutes left, but GBM refused to go quietly. In fact they made a comeback that had fans on the edges of the bleachers. To top off the GBM rally, TWI17S picked a bad time to go into a drought as they closed the game with six straight non scoring possessions. GBM was 4/5 to close the game with Kristin Zimmerman leading the 7-0 charge with six points. It was too late as time ran out and TWI17S lived to play another game.
The numbers I am putting up are only from the second half. Since that is what I saw, that is what I can report.

TEAM WI 17 SELECT
2nd HALF STARTERS
Katie Bushman, Phillips 3, 4, 75.0, .500 RF: ball handling/decision making
Val Schuster, Wausau Newman 4, 6, 66.7, .333 The player that grabs my attention every game I see this game. RF: did not have a great shooting day.
Hannah Quilling, Eau Claire North 2, 3, 66.7, .333 some asked about comparisions with Karel from Cretin-Derham Hall. I would say Karel has more flair and is ahead of Quilling at this point. HQ does get after boards and is an active presence, RF: but at the end of the game she has the keys to the car and the car was sputtering.
Krista Kasuboski, Wautoma 3, 3, 100.0, .333
Lucy Dernovsek, Lake Holcombe 2, 3, 66.7, .333
BENCH
Jade Hatchett, Milwaukee Vincent 2, 7, 28.6, .143 has some sizzle in the dribble. she does catch the eye. RF: ball handling turnovers. I question the shot selection late in the game. If you are going to take the shots in crunch time when you are trying to close out the game, deliver.
Gabby Hungerford, Wild Rose 0, 1, 0.0, .000
Ericka Derks, Slinger 2, 2, 100.0, .500
Cassy Schemberger, Park Falls 2, 1, 200.0, 1.000
GREEN BAY METRO 17

Kristin Zimmerman, Green Bay East 10, 9, 111.1, .556 came up big in the end, when the game was on the line, she had the rock in her hands. can hit 3s, not afraid to get hit. looks for ways to win. RF: forced pass
Diana Taddy, Two Rivers 1, 4, 25.0, .250
Amy Brunner, Green Bay Notre Dame 4, 3, 133,3, .667 did a decent job on the defensive boards.
Sarah Miles, Unknown, 2, 5, 40.0, .400
Lynn Geisler, Green Bay Preble 4, 3, 133.3, .667 big strong inside presence. good after offensive boards. RF: needs to improve leaping ability
BENCH
Kendra Selner, Kewaunee 4, 3, 133.3, .667
Laura Fisher, unknown 2, 3, 66.7, .333 RF: once posting up, no one was around her. She didn't even think about the basket.
TRENCH PLAYER
I don't usually name a player from the team that didn't win, but today it is different, Kristin Zimmerman
BY THE NUMBERS
Team WI 17 Select 20, 30, 66.7, .333
Green Bay Metro 17, 30, 90.0, .500
Again only a half is represented here. Obviously TW17S did some very good things in the first half to get them the lead, and GBM did some things that weren't successful. But I didn't like the way TW17S closed off the game--questionable shot selection, then turnovers, plus missed free throws when they are needed. Even though GBM didn't win what impressed me was the grit, determination and never quit effort that got them within an eyelash.
Here are some other numbers to give one pause...GBM made 14 free throws, while TW17S only made 5. To me this shows an aggressive attacking attitude for GBM.
For those of you expecting photos, my postal service worker didn't bring me the valuable cargo from a reliabe source. Once I receive the disc, I will put the photos up.
