This game took place on Sunday, June 11 at the Mpls Midtown Y
MN Metro Stars 14s 71, Quest 55
Unfortunately, I only got to the second half of this game. Therefore the numbers are abbreviated and should be taken with a grain of salt. As far as the photos, my reliable source sets up at one end of the court so Quest offense was coming to the camera in the second half. That is why you will see a lot of offense for Quest. The action is too far away for the camera to get a good shot at the other end of the court.
I got to this game as soon as the Southern Minne Magic/Lady Komets finished due to running time. I was able to catch the much more interesting, and competitive game here. When I got there the score was 32-24 MMS14. Soon the Quest caught fire and scored on 7 of 8 possessions. Quest tied the game at 36 on Melissa Fitz's 3. MMS14 regained the lead on Lizzi Naumann's basket. Britta Syverson tied it with two free throws. Jennie Kalbfell scored on an old fashioned three point play, but Friestelben tied it with one from beyond the arc. Karin Gibson answered right back with her own from downtown. Friestleben was not fazed and answered the call with another from trey land. At this point the score was tied at 44. Both teams failed to score on their next two possessions. That was only temporary as Molly Duehn scored a put back to give the lead back to MMS14 for good. MMS14 closed out the game with their own 8 of 9 scoring string with a 17-6 run.
Both teams shot the ball extremely well from long distance. MMS had 6 3s when I was watching. Quest had five, four by Friestleben. The offensive fireworks were a welcome oasis from the first two games of the day.

When you shoot good, you look good. And both these teams were feeling it on Sunday in the second half. This was a fun game to watch if you like back and forth action plus the raining 3s, or was it the reign of 3s? It is too bad I don't have the full numbers on this contest. It would have been interesting to see how it would have stacked on the season. My guess is that the MMS14s had anywhere between 60 to 65 possessions, the numbers in the parenthesis is an educated guess.
PHOTO EXHIBIT
In #1 Melissa Fitz of Quest has faked Lizzi Naumann of MMS14. One up she goes. Fitz drives the baseline trailed by Lauren Safranski. #3 photo has Kara Elofson elevating for the board.
In #4 Becca Friestleben initiates contact with Molly Duehn and will be going to the line.
In this sequence we have Friestleben canning one from the left side, Fitz knocking a trey on the right side and Friestleben again on the right side.
In the last three shots Fitz is ready to drive past Gibson and Duehn (a very narrow gap). She bursts through and takes the shot. She misses but House is there for the put pack as she slips by Tisch.
Next up: tonight with a look at the Lynx part 1 defense. Tomorrow --the general news in the AM followed by the Quest/Southern Minne Magic game in the evening. The Total Package/MN Metro Stars 15 game will be reviewed Friday late in the day.
