EDINA hornets 49, ARMSTRONG falcons 48
In a Classic Lake game, Edina led most of the contest, but Armstrong clawed back from a 9 point first half deficit to take a 3 point lead with five minutes to go. Edina rallied to take a four point lead and held on for a one point win. Edina is now 3-3 in the conference and 19-3 overall. Armstrong is 1-5 in conference, 10-12 overall.
Edina started off the scoring with a post up by Taylor Young and then they continued to score on 4/5 possessions and led 9-5. Both teams worked the ball around. Edina had 23 touches on possession #3; Armstrong had 18 touches on their possession #3. Edina had an 8-2 spurt in two minutes to go up 17-7, two of the scores came on 3s by Natalie Pastor and Lauren Young. Edina pushed their lead to their highest margin at 23-14. Amanda Viehauser came right back with a three from the top of the key for Armstrong to cut the margin to six. Both teams stayed at the margin to close the half at 25-19. But neither team could find the bottom of the net in their last four possessions.
Edina maintained their lead early in the half. But things dried up soon thereafter. Edina had a 9 possession drought with seven ending in misfires. Armstrong took advantage of the situation with a 7-0 run to take a 38-35 lead. Armstrong took the lead on Danielle Rahja's shot in the right corner, and added to it with a steal and lay up by Nicole Dooher. Edina's Megan Gaard drove in for two, and then Natalie Pastor hit a three from the top of the key left neighborhood to go back up 40-38. That shot came on the 18th touch. Armstrong was in a mini drought of four possessions. At 2:00 Edina added two free throws by Taylor Young. Dooher matched her at the other end. Pastor then posted up and scored to maintain the four point lead. Both teams traded points at this point and Armstrong was never able to cross over the two point margin until the last shot of the game by Nicole Roth's 3 from the right corner. Edina had a 49-48 win.
