CRETIN-DERHAM HALL raiders 66,

BARNESVILLE trojans 52

Cretin-Derham Hall's Alyssa Karel put on a show to rave reviews in a 66-52 win over AA Barnesville. Karel poured in 35 points all sorts of different ways from runners and swirling drives, to pull up jumpers and rainbows beyond the arc.
Barnesville led early 7-6 with all 7 points coming at the line as they attacked the basket and CDH didn't really have the position. Barnesville had a lead as big as 22-15. That disappeared in a 9/10 scoring sequence and 17-5 run for CDH late in the first half. That made the score 34-27. The half ended with CDH up 36-31

CDH continued their hot hand in the early portion of the second half with 6/7 scoring possession and 13-3 run to basically put the game away 49-34. Barnesville tried to press CDH. Not a good idea. In that sequence CDH had four transition baskets six points came on turnovers by Barnesville. Barnesville did close to 56-46 with seven unanswered points on four consecutive possessions with about 7:30 to go. That awoke CDH and they kicked it into overdrive with their own 10-0 run over 7 possessions to make it 66-46. At this point CDH emptied the bench. Barnesville finished with 6 more points.

CRETIN-DERHAM HALL
STARTERS

Natalie Lyman 4, 6, 66.7, .333 RF: balance issues
Sarah Hendricks 2, 7, 28.6, .143 big player that likes to shoot outside. defensively erased some shots. RF: could be more physical and a bigger impact player.
Carolyn Dienhart 6, 7, 85.7, .429 the other guard in the combination. RF: needs to keep feet set on screens
Alyssa Karel 35, 24, 145.8, .708 The show. The Electric company. playing much like she did in the AAU season--aggressive, alert, and it seems like a weight has been lifted from her HS season. basketball is fun again. As stated above scored in any way she could, but also distributed the ball to open teammates in deceptive and creative ways. favors spinning RF: even though she had plenty of steals, I am not a great believer in playing behind a kid on defense to tap the ball away.
Molly Geske 9, 7, 128.6, .714 nice size, long arms. good movement. good instincts. RF: needs to get stronger

BY THE NUMBERS
Cretin-Derham Hall 66, 77, 85.7, .429
Barnesville 52, 77, 67.5, .351
These numbers may be a bit deceptive considering CDH emptied their bench and the subs didn't perform with the same efficiency as the starting unit as one would expect. Prior to that point CDH was 66, 68, 97.1 pp100; .486 is probably more accurate. They made their coin off the press, and lay ups, but they finished, something I can't say about a lot of teams I have seen this year.
Barnesville is under a new coach Matt Askeggard and without Kelsey Jacobson who is now at Moorhead. Jacobson had 6 3s on Saturday in Moorhead's 70-44 win over St. Cloud Apollo.
