Out & About: Wayzata/Irondale

#6 posting 12.18.2006
your daily dose of girls basketball news & information

WAYZATA trojans 59, IRONDALE knights 27

Wayzata dominated early with five straight scoring possessions and held Irondale scoreless until 9:35 to go in the first half as they cruised to a 59-27 win.

Wayzata moved the ball crisply and strongly, worked the ball inside early for their first 11 points in the first five possessions. Justine Mrosak sealed well and cashed in for six points including a transition basket. Kate Thompson had the other five with two put backs and a free throw. Irondale had problems on offense early with players crashing into each other and the ball sailing out of bounds on miss fired passes. Irondale didn't score until their 15th possession. Wayzata did have a stretch where they went 1/8 on their possessions, but they were going more with the 3 shot instead of paint ball.

Things didn't really change that much in the second half with Wayzata again dominating. At one stage Wayzata scored on 8 straight possessions. Irondale was 1/8 during the same period. Half of the possessions ended up as turnovers and Wayzata exploited those situations. Both benches emptied early.

STARTERS

Stacie Braegelman 3, 3, 100.0, .333 point guard. looks to pass, zips ball. did hit a 3. RF: doesn't really look for shot. needs to hold follow through when she does shoot.
Kat Myers 9, 9, 100.0, .444 like SB moves the ball quickly. looks to shoot more, 3 shooter. crashes offensive boards. fed from up top. RF: picked up a charging foul, so body control/stoping is an issue. ball handling could be suspect under pressure

RF: needs to gain strength, especiall lower body. when she missed her shot it was because it was off the back rim--cure: keep arm up.
Katie Coughenour 5, 7, 71.4, .286 prefers the 3 shot. took a charge on defense. RF: too high defensively

Wayzata controlled all facets of the game. They moved the ball and themselves with zip and verve. They reversed the ball, they worked it inside, they did what they wanted to, anytime they wanted to. For all intents and purposes this game was over in the first five possessions. Wayzata makes the top 10 this season for pp100 (#4) and floor % (#2). Also Defensively Wayzata made the top 10 with pp100 (#7) and floor % (#8)

This continues my Blue Mondays where the games are not very close. Perhaps after the first of the year the luck will change.
