your daily dose of girls basketball news & information

HINCKLEY-FINLAYSON jaguars 50,
FOLEY falcons 37

This is the first of two out & abouts for Saturday. This game took place about 1 pm as part of a boys/girls double header. Besides starting at 1 pm the other attraction was 6-6 soph Amber Dvorak of HF.

Dvorak started off scoring the first six points for HF on their first four possessions. HF led 9-2 as Foley had trouble hitting from the outside against the 2/3 zone. But after hitting 9, HF did not score for 19 possessions or 8:15. 13 of those possessions were turnovers, Foley's press had something to do with it. But Foley didn't really exploit the situation. Their dry spells were 11, and 8 during portions of the HF drought. Foley did take a lead at 12-11 with two free throws by Alyssa Stewart, but they didn't score their last 9 possessions. Meanwhile HF finished with a 7-0 run with Lisa Lymburner connecting with five. HF led 18-12 at half.

Foley closed to 22-20 with Alyssa Stewart's coast to coast lay up after a rebound. HF pushed the lead to 29-22. Dvorak had 8 of the 11 HF points at this point, six from put backs on missed shots by her teammates. It basically stayed at that margin until 2:56 left when Foley closed to 39-35. HF executed at the end and scored on six of their last 8 possessions. On one possession Amanda Bergstad scored on a steal and lay up, was fouled, but missed her free throw. Dvorak was their to clean it up and scored the put back to push the lead back to 45-35 with 2:28 left. So four points in one possession halted any Foley comeback.

made 3s: Foley 1, HF 0
made FTs: HF 16, Foley 12

Size matters and HF had that. They also had some athletic ability. Foley may have been more aggressive with the press. Defensively HF forced Foley to do things they were uncomfortable doing. Foley's perimeter shooting didn't get the job done. HF started off going inside right away. That worked. They backed off it, and when HF went into their dry patch part of it was when Dvorak was sitting. But neither team's numbers were eye popping.

DEFENSIVE WRAPS
defensive rebounds, steals, forced turnovers and blocks leading to offensive possessions.
HINCKLEY-FINLAYSON
