HILL-MURRAY pioneers 59, MARSHALL tigers 50
In a worthy game to finish the week Hill-Murray beat Marshall in an intense game with good action by both teams.
HM stroked their first three possessions to grab an 8-2 lead. Krista Kaput started with a 3 from the right wing, flollowed by an oldfashioned three point play by a Kristin Vasko drive and free throw and then Kaput on her own drive. One way or another HM had 6 3 point plays in the first half. Marshall was led by its dynamic duo of Macie Michelson and Anna Full. In fact those two had all Marshall's points at half with 11 each. With those two doing the damage Marshall had periods a dry spell of 8. Marshall did get as close as 23-19, but HM struck with a Jen Annoni 3 from the left side of the top of the key to go back up 26-19. HM led 30-22 at the break.
Marshall connected on their first three possessions to open the second half. Marshall also had a 9-2 run and cut the HM lead to 32-31. Chrissy Holm cut down the lane to give HM some breathing room at 34-31. Two more free throws by Marshall's Anna Full cut the margin back to one. Both teams traded nonscoring possessions when Krista Kaput nailed a trey from the left side of the top of the key to make it HM 37-33. HM pushed it out to 47-38 after Holm scored on an out of bounds play. Then HM went into an 8 possession drought. Full and Michelson cut that margin down to 47-44. Then Marshall's chances took a big hit with 2:45 to go when Michelson picked up foul #5. HM closed with a 12-4 run. Kaput scored on a free throw, but missed the second. There for the offensive rebound was Taylor Cross, who spent a majority of the game on the bench due to foul issues. Jen Annoni added two free throws on the same possession. HM closed by scoring on 6/7 possession all at the line.

A good intense game to finish the week. These two teams went hard. The difference is HM had more weapons at their disposal, and a deeper bench. They also had the bombers. Marshall attacks the basket hard. HM overplayed on defense forcing back cuts. Marshall was in 2/3 and 1/3/1 at various stages. Also Marshall needs to have their other players hit a shot. Only one player made one field goal other than the dynamic duo of Michelson/Full. Other teams will avoid guarding the others and focus on those two more and more.
