GANG VIOLENCE CANCELS GAME
Saginaw and Buena Vista will not be facing each other anymore due to a near brawl that broke out at last night's game. 13 police cars were called to the scene. The game was suspended after the second quarter. Buena Vista led 28-21 at that point. From the Saginaw News. Also ABC12 has video

MICHIGAN THURSDAY RESULTS
Vassar beat Frankenmuth 47-44 and it may help interim coach Josh Kennard stay in the position. This game & more in the Saginaw News.

Saline won in double overtime against Tecumseh 53-49. Monica Mezger had six points in the extra sessions to lead Saline.
Ann Arbor Pioneer controlled Lincoln 42-20. Both stories from the Ann Arbor News.

Kent City topped Calvin Christian 56-37. In that game Kristi Boehm made the 1000 point mark, the first Kent City player to do so. from the Muskegon Chronicle.
Western MI Christian beat Muskegon Catholic 45-41 in overtime. Emily Johnson, WMC made the game tying basket with 33 seconds left in regulation. This & more in the Muskegon Chronicle. The Grand Haven Tribune also has its take plus other action.

Bay City Western trounced Bangor John Glenn 52-24. From the Bay City Times.

Brethern got by Mason County Eastern 43-34.
Manistee knocked down 8 three pointers in a 56-41 victory over Hart. Both reports from the Ludington Daily News.

Kaycee Damm, Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port was critically injured in a car accident on August 15. She came to the game last night wearing #31 to cheer on her teammates.

Macomb Dakota beat Utica in a crossover game in Macomb Area Conference 61-55.

It took 22 years but Grand Blanc knocked off perennial power Flint Powers in a convincing 46-27 win. It was a 36 game win streak for Powers. The last win was on September 20, 1984. Their was video on this game on ABC12.
Flint Northwestern put it together for a 59-36 win over Southwestern.
Swartz Creek came from behind to beat Lapeer East 43-37.

Napoleon conquered Addison 58-40. Western eeked by Stockbridge 44-43 for their first win of the year.

UP RESULTS
Marquette halted Escanaba 54-36 in the Great Northern Conference game. From the Escanaba Daily Press.
Superior Central took care of MidPeninsula 47-27. Again from the EDP.

Norway beat Negaunee in a MidPeninsula contest 45-40. From the Marquette Mining Journal.
Another of the great UP nicknames: the Gwinn Modeltowners crunched the Ishpeming Hematites 64-28.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Team USA won their third pool game over Russia 90-80 in their closest contest in the FIBA World Championships. The game really wasn't that close as the Americans led 86-65 with 4:32 left. The Minnesota connection was pretty thin with Seimone Augustus getting a bagel in six minutes of action and Katie Smith providing two points.
