Entitlement Affliction and Skill Development

#1 posting 9.9.2006
your daily dose of girls basketball news & information

ECONOMICS OF YOUTH BASKETBALL
Brian McCormick makes the argument that the basketball development in this country is backward and cedes control to the shoe companies. In Europe players are developed through the club system.
He also has another blog with the same tune. Again he rips on the notion of a 9 year old National championship, AAU is all about recruiting and not developing players. This is required reading on how to develop players. It is no longer development, but exposure that counts. The wrong things are being pushed. AAU is all about self promotion, not team play or skills. Players have what he calls "Entitlement Affliction." There are so many good points in this article.
All this comes on the heels of the loss to the Greeks.

WNBA FINALS
The Women's Hoop blog has plenty to say about the finals--the move to a hockey arena, and the lack of any compelling games, and Detroit's state of mind. This is an afternoon game in a state with big football followings. This is not set up to be the marqee event.
