BREAKDOWN FALL LEAGUE
If last week was Trey-riffic, then this week was nail biter Sunday. The three game I saw today all went down to the last tick.
Kennedy beat Richfield 33-31 to open the action. At no time in the game did the spread get larger than four points.
Lakeville North edged Park-Cottage Grove 30-26. LN led by as many as 12 early. PCG opened the second half with a 7 point run to get within 19-18. PCG came up one short three times, but never took the lead. Free throws played a huge part in this contest. It should be noted that Kaiya Sygulla for LN, and Tina Fisher and Katya Leick for PCG did not play in the game.
In the finale in a battle of marquee guards Tayler Hill and Courtney Boylan, Minneapolis South beat Chaska 38-37. Chaska led early, but South was always within shouting distance. There were four ties in the second half. The final tie was a three by Boylan to tie it at 37. Tayler Hill delivered one free throw for the final victory margin.
All the teams on the short end had a crack with the last possession.
Most teams had more players than were necessary. There were no thin benches. That meant prime time players head to sit for a time to get all the players involved.
I will report on the Kennedy/Richfield game on Monday;
the Lakeville North/Park-Cottage Grove game on Tuesday
and the Mpls South/Chaska game on Wednesday
next up: tomorrow morning unless there is breaking news.
